Job Duties and Responsibilties: 

The Artificial Intelligence (Al) Instructor for the University of Hawai'i-West O'ahu's International Short-Term Programs (STP) will deliver an engaging and accessible introduction to Artificial Intelligence for international students. The instructor will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing instructional activities that promote foundational Al knowledge in a supportive, interdisciplinary learning environment. 


  • Teach introductory Artificial Intelligence concepts, including but not limited to machine learning fundamentals, data literacy, AI applications, and ethical considerations, in a clear and accessible manner for students with varying levels of technical background.
  • Design and facilitate interactive lessons, hands-on activities, and group projects that reinforce AI concepts through real-world examples and practical applications.
  • Develop course materials, including presentations, exercises, and assessments appropriate for a short-term, intensive program format.
  • Encourage student participation and collaboration through discussions, presentations, and team-based learning activities.
  • Integrate cross-cultural perspectives and examples to help students understand the global impact and relevance of AI technologies.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support non-native English speakers, ensuring concepts are communicated effectively and inclusively.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to students on assignments, projects, and overall progress throughout the program.
  • Foster a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment that promotes curiosity, critical thinking, and ethical awareness in AI.
  • Collaborate with program staff and coordinators to ensure alignment with program goals and student learning outcomes.
  • Contribute to co-curricular or cultural activities, as appropriate, to enhance the overall student experience in Hawai?i.
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications: 

  1. Possession of a Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science,  Mathematics, or related field
  2. At least one to two years of teaching, training, or instructional experience at the secondary, college, or professional level (experience teaching international or ESL students preferred).
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of foundational Artificial Intelligence concepts (e.g., machine learning basics, data literacy, AI applications, and ethical considerations).
  4. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  5. Flexible and adaptable teaching style suited for short-term, intensive programs.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively with program staff and contribute to a positive learning environment.
  7. Ability to travel (on island), if required.
