The Role

We’re seeking a motivated AI Summer Intern to support the development of cutting-edge predictive analytics and automation solutions within the insurance industry. In this role, you’ll work hands-on with machine learning models, analyze large datasets, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI capabilities into real-world workflows. You’ll research emerging technologies, prepare clear and professional documentation, and contribute ideas that help shape innovative applications across underwriting, claims, and customer service. This internship is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or related fields who are eager to apply their technical skills, grow in a team-oriented environment, and deliver exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.

Schedule

  • Approximate work availability from June through August 2026 (9-12 weeks) required. SFM will work to accommodate university schedules. Weekly schedule will be Monday - Thursday and working at least 30 hours per week.

What You’ll be doing

      • Assist in designing and implementing AI models for predictive analytics and automation.
      • Analyze large datasets to identify patterns and insights relevant to underwriting, claims, and customer service.
      • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI solutions into existing workflows.
      • Research emerging AI technologies and propose innovative applications for insurance processes
      • Provide written documentation that pertains to job responsibilities, which may include findings, methodologies, and present to stakeholders.
      • Participate in Team meetings, providing input and suggestions pertaining to the artificial intelligence subjects.
      • Works collaboratively in a team setting and maintains appropriate interactions with both internal and external customers.
      • Provide superior customer service and performs duties in a professional manner when interacting with end-users and all SFM staff members or customers.
      • Follow company best practices for problem resolution and tracking. Communicates status to customers in a timely manner.

       

      We’re looking for

        Education and Experience

        • Currently pursing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related field.
        • Approximate work availability from June through August (9-12 weeks) required.

        Knowledge and Skills

        • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, natural language processing, and data analytics.
        • Proficiency in Python or R.
        • Familiarity with cloud platforms and version control tools.
        • Excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work well within a team environment.
        • Solid verbal and written communications skills.
        • Willing to ask questions when needed and be self-motivated.
        • Ability to work at least 30 hours per week.
        • Ability to follow directions, and adhere to team procedures and company best practices.
        • Must be able to work onsite at company’s headquarters.

        Compensation: The base pay posted is just one component of SFM’s total compensation package. The salary range listed represents the full compensation range for this position.  Job title and starting pay will be based on the selected candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience, and education, if applicable as well as internal equity with other employees in the same job classification.

        Physical Requirements 

        Work takes place in a semi paperless environment within an office setting or home office setting, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopies, which requires being stationary for extended periods of time.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms and work with close vision. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. Work is performed indoors with little to no exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions.
